Learning vs consuming

I’ve started a new thing.

One of the behaviours I noticed on yesterday’s ‘away day’ was how much crap I consume via various screens. So I’ve decided to start a new learning project that will replace all that screen time. I’ve set myself a 6 week cycle to learn or deepen my knowledge on something. Part of the learning process will require the making of something.

It means I can read all those books, watch a load of documetaries and listen to stuff.

First 6 weeks is all about anthropology. I never studied anthropology, my Modus operandi has always been a mixture of learning on the job while finding super good people to bring into my work and learn from.

I’m starting by reading the book above, Righteous Dopefiend. I guess it’s one of the best examples of something I’d like to do, a mix of excellent writing and photographs based around a long term ethnographical study on the fringes of society.

I’m not sure how this 6 weeks will end, but I’m excited by the prospect.
