I often work with people tackling subjects like class, poverty, equity, and anti-racism - stories that require honesty, sensitivity, and depth.

My own lived experience of growing up working-class shapes how I do this work: how I listen, the questions I ask, and how I help others find language for things that are often hard to name.

How it works

  • Discovery Call

    A short call to understand your goals, audience, and what success would look like.

  • Story Questionnaire

    Each participant completes a short reflection form before the session - it helps surface ideas and blind spots early.

  • Half-Day Workshop

    We work together in person or online (up to 5 people). The session is creative, open, and practical, using a mix of reflection, story exercises, and mapping tools to build clarity fast.

  • Story Clarity Document

    Within a week you’ll receive a tailored summary capturing your key messages, audiences, and next steps, a story map you can share with colleagues, funders, or creative partners.

Meet your host

Curtis James

I’ve spent years helping people and organisations tell stories about community, movements, inequality, class, and change, from community groups in Brighton to national organisations like Nesta and The Kings Fund working on community activism, anti-racism, leadership, and inclusion.

This work sits at the intersection of storytelling, policy, and lived experience. It’s about turning the everyday realities of people’s lives into stories that shift how others see the world.

No jargon, no gloss, just real stories told clearly and carefully.
