Speakeasy Club and why I'm doing it

Scary me

Speaking in public has never been something I enjoy.  I have always admired the people that can stand up and speak, seem comfortable and tell a cool, exciting or inspiring story.  So I took the bull by the horns and did some speech training, joined the Toastmasters and practiced, confronted my fears.  I don’t want this to sound like some kind of self help book/post, because it’s not.

So, I spent a bit of time at Toastmasters, but ultimately found that it wasn’t the kind of public speaking I liked or wanted to do.  For me, public speaking is about telling a story, evoking some kind of emotion and making the audience listen, letting them into your world for a bit.  But the most important bit is about doing that in a relaxed natural way.  I’m not saying that’s what I do right now, but that’s what I aspire to, and that’s why Peter and myself set up Speakeasy Club, so that we could practice ourselves, and share that experience with others.

Rest assured, if you are a little bit nervous about coming on Monday, you won’t be the only one.  If you want to come, you can find out more and sign up here.
