The State of the UK coffee industry?

What industry?

The UK is all about Starbucks, Latte’s and packaged sandwiches.  I’d love to be able to goto a decent cafe or bar and drink a decent espresso and be surrounded by others doing the same - but instead I would be drinking a bitter brown drink surrounded by people drinking beer.  There is no coffee culture.
