When I read They F*$k you up, it was a breath of horrible dirty air, but in a good way. Written by the Clinical psychologist Oliver James, it looks at the impact parents have on our lives. It’s not really a self help book, maybe it is, I don’t know. But I have fond memories reading it on a dusty balcony in Athens a few years back.
Olivers more recent work has been about people’s relationship with money - and they probably couldn’t be more timely. If you want to get some insight into one of the reasons why we might be heading into a recession, you could do worse than read his latest 2 books, Affluenza and The Selfish Capitalist. I’d also recomend Status Anxiety by Alain de Botton.
Oliver James is speaking in Brighton on the 25th June.
